Abstract Human beings have needs, security is one of the most important human needs that plays an important role in his/her and society's happiness and health, and housing is one of the basic needs of humans after food and clothing. But this need has become a serious problem due to the increasingly growth of demand for housing at the result of the increasing population and urbanization of contemporary decades in Iran, which has allowed the volume of housing construction to reach its maximum, as well as a one-sided look at them.Therefore, their safety has diminished, and the amount of occurrence of crime has increased in residential areas. It could be have major problems for the residents because of the lack of attention of residential complexes' planners and designers to the physical-environmental criteria for human needs. In fact, one of these problems is the lack of social security of today's complexes. In environmental design, the CPTED approach is one of the most effective approaches in promoting social security and crime prevention. Today, defensible spaces theory plays a decisive role in reducing crime opportunities. The purpose of this study is to assess the correlation between several social security variables and the use of Spss software. The population of the residents is 400 Unit residential complex of Qazvin. The sample size is calculated using Cochran's formula and a multi-stage cluster sampling method is used. Measuring the reliability of the questionnaire was also prformed by Cronbach's alpha and the obtained number is 0.8. Finally, based on the Friedman test, the rankings of each of the indicators were conducted. the functional quality index has the first priority and then each of the indicators of natural monitoring, physical quality, reinforcement Freedom, readability and territory are effective in promoting social security in residential complexes.
